Fall Classic Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate 51M spectators across the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball reported this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday epic game secured over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match series recorded 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American viewership reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 various languages.
